How to suspend a parking bay in Newham for a move
Newham takes suspension requests through MiPermit, wants ten working days, and asks for a marked-up map and a written reason before it will look at yours.

What a resident can actually book
Newham lets a resident suspend up to three spaces, in permit-holder-only bays or shared-use bays, within their own residential parking zone. Those three qualifiers all matter. Three spaces is the ceiling. The bay has to be one of those two types. And it has to sit inside the zone you live in — a resident of one zone cannot reach across a boundary and take out a bay in another.
Domestic removals are on the council's own list of accepted reasons, alongside weddings, business removals, building works and tree work, so nobody has to be talked into it. Disabled bays are the exception: they are suspended only where it is genuinely unavoidable or where emergency maintenance demands it.
Ten working days, and it means it
Requests should be submitted a minimum of ten working days before the date you need, and the council says outright that applications made with less notice may be rejected. Ten working days is two full weeks of Mondays to Fridays — closer to three calendar weeks once a bank holiday lands in the middle — so a mid-month move wants starting at the beginning of the month before it.
Once submitted, a request is processed in roughly two to three working days, and you are told by email either way. That gap between processing and the start date is your safety margin; it is not the same thing as the notice period, and it is not a reason to shorten it.
What to have ready before you open the form
Everything goes through MiPermit rather than a council form: sign in, go to the digital permits section and choose the resident suspension application. Have these to hand.
- A map with the bays clearly marked. Not a description, a marked-up map.
- The address the bays sit outside.
- A written statement setting out precisely where the bays are and why they need suspending. A sentence saying the house is being moved out of, with the date, is what this is for.
- A card to pay with.

What it costs
The council prices this in two parts, a per-bay daily element and an administration element, and publishes both on the page above. We link rather than quote. A council fee is the single most perishable fact on a page like this one, and nobody here has undertaken to re-read seven boroughs' price lists every quarter — so rather than carry a figure that quietly rots, we point you at the version that is correct by definition.
One structural point does survive any price change: the administration element is not refunded. Cancelling is possible up to five days before the start, and the daily element comes back, but that part does not.
If you are not the resident
There is a separate commercial route for anyone who is not a Newham resident, and it is not interchangeable with the resident one. If a removal firm applies on its own account rather than the household applying, that is the application it has to make, on different terms.
What happens with nothing arranged
Stratford is the hard case. Traffic near the station and the shopping centre is heavy through most of the working day, the newer developments run their own loading arrangements rather than a free-for-all, and Maryland's terraces and the turnings off Angel Lane are permit bays that fill by mid-morning. Forest Gate is calmer but no less controlled. A van without a plan ends up parked further away than anyone wants, and every extra metre of carry is paid for in time.
