Term dates are not moving dates. What empties a room is the end of a licence or a tenancy, and universities publish those — so we read them rather than guessing, and we say where each fact came from.
London Met is the campus on this site where the university does not set your moving date at all, and it says so itself in plain words: it does not own or manage any halls of residence, and therefore cannot guarantee students a room in halls. What it publishes instead is a list of privately owned buildings — thirty-one of them when we read it — with the distance from the Holloway campus written beside each one. Chapter Highbury is a tenth of a mile. The Arcade is half a mile. North Lodge is four miles away, Wood Green Hall three, Mannequin House five. So a London Met year does not end with one building emptying over one weekend. It ends with a few hundred separate agreements held by a dozen different operators, finishing on a dozen different dates.
That has a consequence, and it is the reason this page exists. Your contract length comes from whoever owns your building, not from the academic calendar. The university's own guidance describes the arrangement as a contract with the owner for a specified period of time, normally six months to one year, and it names Park House, Goldsmiths House, Helen Graham House, Stapleton House, Station Court and Chester House among the halls offering shorter or single-semester options. Which is why the first thing we ask a London Met caller is not when term finishes. It is what date is written on the agreement, because that is the only date that moves a van.
The second consequence is spread. Someone leaving Chapter Highbury is moving out of Islington; someone leaving Wood Green Hall is in Haringey; Mannequin House is somewhere else again. Different streets, different councils, different parking regimes, all on the same June afternoon and all belonging to the same university. We work across every one of them, and we would far rather size the job from the address you are actually standing in than from the name of the institution on your student card.
The third is that a privately run hall does not stage a moving-in weekend the way a campus university does. There is no gate, no security ticket and nobody handing you a forty-five-minute unloading window; there is a building manager, a set of house rules and whatever the street outside happens to allow that morning. We do not know what your building permits and we are not going to invent it — ask your hall's own team before the date and pass the answer to us, and we will plan the arrival and the parking around what they tell you.
What is ours to promise is the rest. A room's worth of belongings needs the small van and about two hours, not a lorry and a full crew. Rooms in these halls are let individually, so taking one person's things out of a shared flat is ordinary work rather than an exception. And the figure is built from your two real addresses and the route between them, so a move from Highbury and a move from Wood Green come out as the different jobs they are.
