Leytonstone is a High Road place. Almost everything in E11 orients itself to the long spine of shops and parades running from the Green Man interchange down towards Leyton, and a good share of the moves we do here start behind one of those shopfronts. A flat above a parade has no frontage of its own: you reach it through a narrow side door squeezed between two shops, up a straight communal stair, often to a second floor with a further turn at the top. For getting away afterwards, Leytonstone is where the Central line divides for Epping and the Hainault loop, Leytonstone High Road station adds the Overground a few streets off, and the Green Man interchange puts a van on the North Circular or out east without a crawl through side streets.
