We are in and out of these streets all week with part loads, so the questions that decide the job are small ones: where the van can stand, how many flights there are, and whether you want a hand carrying.
E8 moves in small pieces. People here shift a room at a time between shares around London Fields and Dalston, take one sofa with them when a tenancy ends, or buy a table off someone three streets away and need it in a first-floor flat by the evening. What makes E8 harder than it looks is the vertical part. The door frames are period and slim, and the staircases turn at half-landings that were sized for the furniture of the 1880s. A wardrobe that came in flat-packed may have to leave the same way. London Fields and Hackney Central are Overground stations, and the rest of the borough runs on the road network and the A10 — no use at all when what you are moving is a chest of drawers.
